Roberto Santaguida | Canada / Serbia

A filmmaker, he completed a baccalaureate degree in film production from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, 2004. His production straddles documentary film and experimental cinema. His work is marked by an exercise in self-questioning about the pertinence of film as a medium for representation, and the modes of construction of cinematic narrative. His films have been shown at festivals such as the Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival, Germany (2011); Videoex International Experimentalfilm, Zurich, Switzerland (2008); and the Transmediale 08, in Berlin, Germany (2008); among others. His first short film, Miraslava, was shown in over 120 international festivals and won four prizes. Roberto Santaguida undertook artist residencies in the USA, Australia, Canada, Norway, South Korea, Germany, Serbia and Croatia. He lives and works in Novi Sad, Serbia.

Goran | 2014, video

In Goran, Santaguida works in collaboration with Goran Gostojić, a resident of Novi Sad, in northern Serbia, who has special needs. Speaking with the director, Gostojić talks about his daily life and his reactions to situations of fear and joy. In a subtle way, the images portray Gostojić’s choices and his views of reality. At the same time, the director’s presence raises issues about the place of the author and the possibilities of self-representation.
